A Case of Metastatic Tumor Totally Obstructing Lower Trachea Removed by Ventilating Bronchoscopy and Suspension Laryngoscope With Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation

چکیده

A patient diagnosed with advanced lung cancer developed severe dyspnea after chemotherapy. Metastatic tumor completely obstructing the lower trachea was revealed by bronchoscopy. Emergent surgery required but it difficult to perform open tracheal and maintain sufficient ventilation intubation because of location size tumor. After consultation an esthesiologist, respiratory physician cardiothoracic surgeon, we performed extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) without intubation. We report a rare case successfully removed metastatic in airway under support ECMO.

Flexible Bronchoscopy Is Safe and Effective in Adult Subjects Supported With Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation.

BACKGROUND Previous studies have demonstrated the safety of flexible bronchoscopy (FB) in mechanically ventilated subjects. However, the safety of FB in adult subjects receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has not been described previously. METHODS A retrospective review was conducted of all adult subjects who underwent FB while receiving ECMO support at the University of Alaba...

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation

Cerebral perfusion temperatures during antegrade cerebral perfusion and their affect on cerebral metabolism and neurological outcomes are evaluated in this study. Young piglets were subjected to a period of hypothermic circulatory arrest at 20°C using alphastat pH management. Four study groups were then assigned to differing temperatures of selective cerebral perfusion. Lower perfusion temperat...

Lower limb overflow syndrome in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

Peripheral extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is associated with a not negligible rate of vascular morbidity. Most vascular complications are related to limb ischaemia mainly due to insufficient limb perfusion or embolic events. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a severe epidermolysis and overflow syndrome as a result of an overperfusion phenomenon through an unk...

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a technique that involves oxygenation of blood outside the body, and provides support to selected patients with severe respiratory or cardiac failure. The two major ECMO modalities are venoarterial and venovenous. Data from several randomised trials support the use of ECMO in neonatal respiratory failure, and a recent randomised controlled trial of ...

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

EDITOR,-The need for facilities to provide extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for the newborn is as yet undetermined in the UK. To estimate the number of babies who may be candidates for this form of neonatal intensive care, we carried out a prospective study in the four Thames regional health authorities (June-November 199 1) and the Oxford Regional Health Authority (November 1991-Apri...
